Khatna's Journey
From the floating Cambodian village of Mechrey to the reception desk at Heritage Suites Hotel, we follow Khatna on her transformational journey. Khatna is a graduate of the Sala Bai, a Hotel and Restaurant School created by the French NGO Agir pour le Cambodge. Each year the school trains – free of charge – 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians. After nine years of operation, 803 Sala Bai students have been trained for careers in the growing hospitality industry, enabling them to achieve economic independence and improve the living conditions of their families.
In this film we explore the social impact of the school through the experience of an individual student and pair that within the larger context of Cambodia’s recent history, speaking with former US Ambassador to Cambodia Carol Rodley.
The film premiered at UNIFEM’s Singapore headquarters in Spring 2012 for International Women’s Day.
